What a Reload Bonus Is
A reload targets existing customers rather than new ones. Deposit again and a percentage of that deposit is matched in bonus funds, up to a cap. Unlike a welcome offer, it can be claimed repeatedly, usually on a monthly cycle.
The trade is visible in the terms: reloads carry higher rollovers than welcome offers because the operator is not paying to acquire a customer, only to reactivate one.
The Rollover Is the Whole Story
Four times the bonus amount, at minimum odds. On a maximum $50 bonus that means $200 of qualifying turnover before anything can be withdrawn.
Running $200 through a book with a typical 5% margin costs about $10 in expected value. So a $50 bonus with a 4x rollover is worth roughly $40 in expectation, assuming the qualifying bets are ones that would have been placed anyway — and considerably less if the rollover forces bets that would not have been.
That last condition is where reload bonuses go wrong. A bettor who deposits $200 to claim $50 and then places bets purely to clear the requirement has converted a bonus into a reason to bet more, which is precisely the intended effect.
Conditions to Check
Minimum odds on qualifying bets, typically 1.70, which excludes the short-priced selections that would clear a rollover most safely. Cashed-out bets usually do not count toward the requirement. A time limit, commonly 30 days, after which unconverted bonus funds are removed.
Bonus funds are also generally locked until the rollover completes, meaning a withdrawal request before then forfeits the bonus and sometimes any winnings derived from it.
Verdict
Reasonable if the deposit was happening regardless and the qualifying turnover matches normal betting volume. Poor value if either condition fails.
A 4x rollover is at the demanding end for a sportsbook reload, and the offer is worth comparing against simply keeping the money unbonused and betting at better prices elsewhere.
