Availability
PayPal is the most selective of the mainstream betting payment methods. It is accepted by bet365, Betway and Unibet among the bookmakers reviewed here, and absent at the other two. That pattern is not accidental: PayPal applies its own licensing requirements on top of the local regulator's, and operators outside the strictest jurisdictions frequently do not qualify.
For a bettor, the practical reading is that a bookmaker accepting PayPal has already passed a second check beyond its gambling licence. It is a weak signal rather than a guarantee, but it correlates with the operators that hold UK and Malta licences rather than offshore ones.
Speed and Cost
Deposits are instant. Withdrawals clear to the PayPal balance within 24 hours of the bookmaker approving them, and from there to a linked bank account in one to three days — or immediately, for a small fee, on the instant transfer option.
Neither the bookmakers nor PayPal charge for the betting transactions themselves. This makes PayPal the cheapest of the fast methods: Skrill and Neteller both take a cut somewhere in the chain, while PayPal takes nothing on a same-currency transfer. Cross-currency is a different story, and the conversion spread is comparable to the other wallets.
The Bonus Question
PayPal is excluded from most welcome offers, the same as the other wallets. A handful of operators have carved out an exception for it in recent years, so the terms are worth checking rather than assuming — but the safe default is that a PayPal-funded first deposit will not trigger a bonus.
Where PayPal differs from Skrill is that the exclusion is less universal, and where an operator does allow it the wallet becomes the strongest overall option: bonus-eligible, fee-free and fast on withdrawals, which no other single method manages.
Account Freezes
The risk worth understanding before committing to PayPal is that its dispute and compliance machinery was built for retail commerce and applies bluntly to gambling. An unusual pattern of transfers — a sharp increase in volume, transfers to a newly licensed operator, activity from a new location — can trigger a hold on the whole PayPal balance, not just on the gambling transactions.
Resolution goes through PayPal's own support process, and the timeline is measured in weeks rather than days. This is rare, but it is a different failure mode from a bookmaker declining a withdrawal: the money is held by a third party with no relationship to the bet.
The mitigation is not to hold a large balance in the wallet. Sweep withdrawals to the bank rather than leaving them parked, and the exposure is limited to whatever is in transit.
Verdict
Where it is accepted, PayPal is the best value of the fast payment methods — nothing to pay in either direction and next-day withdrawals. The reasons to look elsewhere are availability and concentration risk, not cost.
An account that bets with one of the three bookmakers above and withdraws regularly has little reason to use anything else, provided the first deposit is made by card to keep the welcome offer intact.
