Bitcoin — Betting Deposits & Withdrawals

Crypto

Pros

  • High limits without the bank-side friction
  • Withdrawals settle without a card or bank in the chain
  • Works where card deposits are blocked outright

Cons

  • Accepted by only one bookmaker reviewed here
  • Exchange-rate exposure between deposit and withdrawal
  • Irreversible — a mistyped address loses the funds permanently
  • Network congestion makes deposit timing unpredictable

Acceptance

Of the five bookmakers reviewed on this site, only 1xBet accepts Bitcoin. The licensed European operators — bet365, Betway, Unibet, bwin — do not, and their regulators are the reason: several licensing regimes either prohibit crypto funding outright or impose source-of-funds requirements that make it impractical to offer.

That concentration is the first thing to weigh. Choosing Bitcoin as a payment method is, in practice, also choosing the operator, and the operator in question holds a Curaçao licence rather than a UK or Malta one. The payment method should not be the thing that decides where an account is opened.

Speed and Cost

Deposits confirm in ten to sixty minutes depending on network congestion and the fee attached to the transaction. This is slower than every other method here except bank transfer, and unlike bank transfer it is unpredictable — the same deposit can clear in twelve minutes on a quiet day and take an hour when the mempool is full.

Withdrawals are approved on the bookmaker's normal schedule and then settle on-chain, generally landing within 24 hours end to end. There is no bank in the path to add days, which is the method's genuine advantage.

The only cost is the network fee, which varies with congestion rather than with the amount sent. For a large withdrawal that fee is negligible as a percentage; for a small one it can be a meaningful slice.

Exchange Rate Exposure

This is the risk that is specific to crypto and easy to underestimate. A balance held in Bitcoin between a deposit and a withdrawal is exposed to the exchange rate, and that exposure is uncorrelated with anything happening in the bet.

A winning month can be erased by a falling market, and a losing one can be masked by a rising one. Neither outcome has anything to do with the quality of the betting. Most operators that accept crypto convert the deposit to a fiat-denominated balance immediately, which removes the exposure while funds sit in the account — worth confirming before depositing, because the ones that do not are asking the bettor to hold two positions at once.

Irreversibility

There is no chargeback, no dispute process and no recovery path. An address entered incorrectly sends the funds somewhere they cannot be retrieved, and a withdrawal sent to the wrong network is gone in the same way.

Card and wallet payments have layers of reversal built in; this has none. The mitigation is procedural — copy addresses rather than typing them, send a small test transaction first when using a new address — and it has to be applied every time.

Verdict

Bitcoin is a workable option for accounts that cannot use cards and are already betting with an operator that accepts it. It is a poor reason to choose that operator.

For anyone with functioning access to a card or an e-wallet at a licensed bookmaker, crypto adds exchange-rate risk, timing uncertainty and irreversibility in exchange for benefits those methods already provide.
